(insert opening
scentence here)
“Maddy,
I'm going to the grocery store, your father is inside and I'll be
back in about an hour.” her mom called.
“alright!”
Maddy yelled back, “see you in a bit!” she waved as her mom
pulled out of the driveway.
Her
mom had been gone for less than 5 minutes when she heard a clunk and
scraping on the driveway. She looked over to see five
confused-looking pirates sitting in
a rowboat. Her
first instinct was to go get her father and tell him that there had
been strange people climbing up their roof. Then she realized that
these we re not just people dressed like pirates that had fallen off
a roof. And anyway, how did they get the rowboat on the roof without
a ladder?
Maddy
looked around. She could see no evidence of someone climbing the
house. She looked back, checking to see if the pirates were still
there. They were. They were now trying to paddle across the driveway,
to no avail. Maddy felt that there was no way around it: she would
have to talk to the pirates.
“Uh,
hello!” Maddy said cheerfully as she approached the pirates. The
pirates were too busy arguing over the oars to hear her.
“Hello?”
Maddy repeated, louder this time. All five pirates turned their
heads, dropping the oars.
“Ahoy,
matey,” said the first pirate. “Can ye
direct us to the nearest sea?”
“I'm
afraid not,” Maddy replied, “the nearest one is twelve hours away
by car. I've only been once, I don't know the way.” The pirate
looked disappointed. “Why
are you here, anyway?”
The
second pirate replied this time. “We'll have to tell ye the story
then, maties.”
The
third pirate cleared his throat. “It was an average day aboard our
ship. Captain, First Mate. Pegleg, Cook and I were playing cards. I
was winning, too. Then it started to pour. Hard
and cold, and the wind picked up. Ripped right through our sails,
tossed the sea and tossed water into our vessel. We were the only
ones aboard, naturally. The rest of our crew was arrested at an
English port, but that's not important. The
ship started sinkin' and we knew we only had one choice, we had to
abandon ship.” the fourth pirate then picked up,
“but
once we started rowin' the
strangest thing happened. We started shooting
through mist, rocking, but it
was nothing like the rocking of the sea.
then we landed here.” he concluded.
Maddy
was confused. The only things she knew of that did that where time
machines. “is this a time
machine?” She asked the pirates. The
pirates looked at each other, clearly confused.
so that's all for today, i hope you enjoyed!
